CPD: The growing trend of private companies

Listed equities are the cornerstone of most diversified investment portfolios. Whether held directly, via an exchange traded fund or an unlisted managed investment, even those investors with a lower tolerance to risk tend to have some exposure to equities.

What most diversified portfolios don’t have is an exposure to private companies, or more specifically, private equity (PE) investments; this has traditionally been the domain of institutional investors. However, the advent of listed private equity (LPE) – entities listed on international stock exchanges whose main activity is investing in private companies, private equity funds or the investment managers of private equity funds – makes this asset class more accessible to all investors.
